The Blueprint: A DNA Musical

“THE BLUEPRINT: A DNA Musical” follows the events surrounding esteemed Jewish biochemist, Rosalind Franklin, in the 1950s to look at how diversity of thought, culture, religion, and gender play into what we consider scientific progress. Using the race to find the structure of DNA as a case study, Sylvia wanted to explore the ways in which contributions and truth in science world are diminished by the societal structures in which we work. THE BLUEPRINT highlights how the struggle for notoriety and success is about more than grit and intelligence, but about how you play the game in an unfair world.

Self Produced Records

I’ve been writing music for as long as I can remember. In August of 2016, I released my first self-produced original album titled “All of the People", a collection of songs I had written between the ages of 8-14.

In August 2020, I released my second full length album, “Two Winters Two Summers” to stream exclusively on the music platform Bandcamp. You can find access to both of these albums, along with all of the lyrics, using the link below!

Biology Bops

In my senior year AP Biology class I had come across a video called “Protein Synthesis: an epic on the cellular level.” What I found myself watching was the coolest thing I had ever seen: an interpretative dance demonstrating the molecular processes occurring as our body makes proteins.

Looking for a Senior Project idea that had to do with my original music, without rushing to complete a second full length album, I knew what I had to do - write songs that described biological processes! But my Biology themed songs wouldn’t be just any kind of catchy ear worm written to get in your head to help you memorize terms; they would be written in my own style, influenced by Regina Spector, Ingrid Michaelson, Sara Barellies (the Holy Trinity). Who wouldn’t want to sing about DNA Replication to a song that sounds like “Love Song”?

Through the combination of informative lyrics or pictures that you’re watching while listening to the songs, topics that once seemed daunting and jargony become a tune you can hum while waiting for the subway.
